Favourite quotes for children to read at weddings

Increase the cute factor, and do something a little bit different, and ask some of the special little people in your life to do a reading during your wedding ceremony.  Including older children in a wedding ceremony is a lovely way to make them feel very special and a big part of the day.  Our favourite picks are:
  1. Guess How Much I Love You, by Sam McBratney
  2. The Velveteen Rabbit, by Margery Williams
  3. The Owl and the Pussy-Cat, by Edward Lear
  4. No Matter What, by Debi Gliori
  5. Winnie the Pooh – A. A. Milne

Guess how Much I Love you - Sam McBratney (a short extract)

"I love you right up to the MOON," he said, and closed his eyes.
"Oh, that's far," said Big Nutbrown Hare. "That is very far."
Big Nutbrown Hare settled Little Nutbrown Hare into his bed of leaves.  He lean over and kissed him good night.
Then he lay down close by and whispered with a smile, "I love you right up to the moon - AND BACK."
The Velveteen Rabbit, by Margery Williams

"What is Real?" the Rabbit asked the Skin Horse one day.  "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you?"
"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It happens to you when a child loves you for a long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you.  Thhen you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Velveteen Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," the Velveteen Rabbit asked, "or bit by bit?"

'It doesn't happen all at once,' said the Skin Horse. 'You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.
The Owl and the Pussy-Cat

The Owl and the Pussy-Cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat
They took some honey, and plenty of money
Wrapped up in a five–pound note
The Owl looked up to the stars above
And sang to a small guitar
‘O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!’

Pussy said to Owl ‘You elegant fowl!’
How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! Too long we have tarried
But what shall we do for a ring?”
They sailed away, for a year and a day
To the land where the Bong-Tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose
His nose
His nose!
With a ring at the end of his nose.

‘Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?’ Said the Piggy, ‘I will.’
So they took it away and were married next day
By the turkey who lives on the hill
They dined on mince, and slices of quince
Which they ate with a runcible spoon
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand
They danced by the light of the moon
The moon
The moon!
They danced by the light of the moon.

No Matter What - Debi Gliori (a short extract)

"But what about when you're far away?
Does your love go too, or does it stay?"

"Look up at the stars. They're far, far away. But their light reaches usat the end of each day."

"It's like that with love -
we may be close, we may be far,
but our love still surrounds us...
wherever we are."

Winnie the Pooh - A.A.Milne

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.”

“Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. “Pooh?” he whispered.
“Yes, Piglet?”
“Nothing,” said Piglet, taking Pooh’s hand. “I just wanted to be sure of you.”

“We’ll be Friends Forever, won’t we, Pooh?’ asked Piglet.
Even longer,’ Pooh answered.”

“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.”
